Abstract: Oral Hydrogen water – reduce hepatic inflammatory cells in mouse

Hydrogen Water Studies

Non-Alcoholic SteatohepatitisFatty Liver Disease (Nonalcoholic)

Abstract: Oral Hydrogen water – reduce hepatic inflammatory cells in mouse

by Cui Gang

Abstract:

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) encompasses a range of liver conditions from simple steatosis to more severe forms such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and potentially to hepatocellular carcinoma. This study aimed to assess the preventative effects of hydrogen water on the progression of NASH in a C57BL6 mouse model, known for its susceptibility to this disease. We divided the mice into two groups: one receiving a methionine choline deficient (MCD) diet with normal water, and the other with hydrogen water. Both groups were monitored over 8, 12, and 16 weeks. Liver samples were analyzed using histological methods including H&E, CD68, and Masson`s trichrome staining. The primary outcome measured was the concentration of reactive oxygen species (ROS), with significant reductions observed in the hydrogen water group across all time points. Additionally, there was a notable decrease in CD68-positive inflammatory cells in the hydrogen water group, particularly at later stages. These findings suggest that hydrogen water can significantly reduce hepatic oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis, making it a potential therapeutic strategy for managing and preventing NASH in the context of NAFLD.
